Sounds and Stories Live
Jobina Tinnemans is a contemporary composer working in cross over disciplines of electronics, classical music and contemporary art. Her project Sounds and Stories Live uses prepared knitting needles as instruments to create ambient site-specific compositions.
Performed live at the opening ceremony of the Maunula House cultural centre in 2017, the Helsinki composition mixes sounds recorded from the neighbourhood with improvised Finnish runo singing. On stage, a ‘knitting orchestra’ of ladies from the community centre generated the soundscape by knitting colourful fabrics with their prepared needles.
