The fourth floor Spring 2016 exhibition at Tate Liverpool encompassed two parts – We Have Your Art Gallery and Art Gym.
Tate Collective produced Art Gym following on from the negotiations that took place during We Have Your Art Gallery. Inspired by a traditional gym, Art Gym offers visitors of all ages and abilities the chance to make a personal training programme, designed to learn new creative skills or develop existing ones. Instead of kettlebells and treadmills, visitors can enjoy a wide range of classes, lectures, workshops and art stations teaching everything from traditional craft work to digital art production. Tate Collective and the gallery’s Visitor Assistant Team were also on hand as Art Gym Instructions; happy to help visitors with their creative workout.
This interactive exhibition was set in a custom built space co-designed with Assemble to host three weeks’ worth of programme curated by Tate Collective. The programme included regular drop in activities and offered daily special sessions in response to the theme of the day such as drawing sessions on Thursdays or artist talks on Saturdays.
Visitors were encouraged to come back to Art Gym as often as they can to increase their art rate and continue their creative exercises beyond their visit to Art Gym; using the exhibition as a place to experience and train different forms of creative making and thinking.
