IN AND OUT
A collaboration between Roxy in the Box (Naples) and the Kunsthalle Osnabrück in the Rosenplatz-District and the Kunsthalle Osnabrück
In goes out – begins 24th July
The artist “Roxy in the Box” (born in Naples) is placarding the facades of the Rosenplatz-District with paintings of celebrities from the various genders of contemporary art history, life-sized and in bright colors. The commission brings the portraits of “stars” like Frida Kahlo, Albrecht Dürer, Yoko Ono, Udo Lindenberg, Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramović, etc onto the streets. Roxy transfers art out of the institutional art context and carries it to places where it is not necessarily expected: into the Rosenplatz-District, where these personalities that shaped art history are probably not so well known. Each painting is accompanied by personalized invites to interact with the work, be it taking a selfie, writing a note to the artist or staging one’s own performance.
Out comes in, 26th August (Kulturnacht)
What has been produced by the audience in the Rosenplatz-District will be transferred from the street back into the art sector. For the “Kulturnacht” (August, 26th) the Kunsthalle will open its doors for the Rosenplatz project and show the jointly produced materials. The exhibition will give an opportunity to expand the knowledge of art and artists, to share their stories and to ask the organizers about the concept of “in & out”.
Will be continued, after 26th August
The next step will be the inspiration and occasion for all citizens of Osnabrück to rediscover the Rosenplatz-District.
”In and Out” by Roxy in the Box is part of the ongoing project with the title “The Rocket” conceived by Kunsthalle Osnabrück in collaboration with the Univerisity of Osnabrück and activated by an increasing number of artists and audience in occasion of CAPP Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme.
The Rocket is a metaphor for outreach to underserved communities. The challenge of this commission is to address and activate an audience that doesn’t usually visit museums. And, in turn, to bring the specific art audience into a district they haven‘t so far perceived as space of creativity.
